The easternmost inhabited island in the entire Andaman & Nicobar group of islands, Neil Island is the easternmost inhabited island in Ritchie’s Archipelago. Most of the settlers were refugees from erstwhile Bangladesh, following the migration of Hindu Bangladeshis preceding that country’s war of independence.

A small and flat island, Neil Island – Shaheed Dweep was deemed suitable for paddy cultivation.
